RODEO is VITALITY
The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series is every Friday and Saturday night during the summer, right downtown next to Howelson Hill in Romick Arena. The rodeo showcases talented bull riders and gives tourism quite the boost. There is activities for children, too, such as the lamb chase. Broncos and wild bulls each have their turn in the arena.
The rodeo harnesses Routt County’s country vibe all just in a couple hours.
MUSIC is VITALITY
From The Wailers to Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Steamboat Springs has invited musicians to play in our town since the 80s. For FREE. It’s all a part of our Free Summer Concert Series. Almost every weekend, another name comes into town to play outdoors at either Howelson Hill or at the base of the gondola in Ski Times Square. And, it’s never denied any local musicians from performing either on the street corner in front of music store All That Jazz or just jamming in one of our parks. The bars that line Lincoln Avenue bask in the limelight of welcoming musicians like Michal Menert from the Pretty Lights label to honky-tonkin’ country bands.
The music scene in Routt County keeps the locals on their dancing shoes. Head up to the Hahn’s Peak Roadhouse or some local bars over in Hayden, or even just the field in the Yampa Valley Botanic Park for any type of music your heart could desire.
”When Olympians gather in Salt Lake City it’s called the Winter Games. When they gather in Steamboat it’s called Thursday.”
Routt County maintains it’s vitality through ATHLETICS. We are a very active community that strives to maintain our status as a healthy and livable place. It’s no wonder people from all over the world come to Steamboat Springs for it’s champagne powder skiing, look at all the Olympians who choose Routt County as their home! (See above picture, these are just the ones still alive! History’s total, there are over 80!)
Biking, running, skiing, fishing, tubing, hiking, kayaking, personal fitness, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ATVing/dirt biking & motocross, football, baseball, softball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, golf, gymnastics, dance, yoga, pilates, zumba, snowshoeing…. There is literally a niche for every athlete to fit right into.
I have been awful about posting on here…..prepare yourselves for an onslaught of Routt County
Routt County is renowned for it’s majestic beauty found in all its corners. Routt National Forest is an incredibly clean and awe-inspiring place. Routties take pride in the fact that we “leave no trace” and utilize the trails for our own benefit, and not to the disruption of the wilderness.
All-embracing. That’s my first word for this week’s theme.
Routt County has never turned away any person, for any reason. No matter your race, your gender, your opinions, your economic status, your interests…nothing is too much for Routt County. Every person has their niche and it’s very easy to find. Most of the residents here are willing and able to accept any new-comer.
The Tour de Steamboat had a great turnout this year! That’s one incredible thing about Routt County… we always have room for anyone who wants to join! Especially when it comes to athletics!
